Man Assaults Long Island Nurse Caring For Him, Police Say

A Long Island nurse caring for a patient soon had to be cared for by other hospital staff after a patiently allegedly assaulted her, police said.

Fidel Velasquez, a 36-year-old East Meadow resident, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a nurse caring for him at a local hospital, according to police.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, 35-year-old Fidel Velasquez of East Meadow was being treated at Nassau University Medical Center, according to the Nassau County Police.

At approximately 11 p.m., he allegedly began to assault the 35-year-old nurse whose care he was under at the time.

Velasquez allegedly became combative with the nurse, whose name was not released, kicking her multiple times in her arm.

The nurse was treated at the hospital by staff at the scene for her injuries, which police reported were minor bruises.

Velasquez was arrested by officers and is charged with second-degree assault.

He will be arraigned when medically practical.
